Nintendo World Store

January 15, 2013 By ausretrogamer

My bucket list is quite extensive. Amongst the usual things to do or see once in a life time, I managed to cross-off the big one – visiting the Nintendo World Store in New York City! Not only did I visit it once, I returned many times to soak it all in and stock up on Nintendo products. I even managed to take a load of photos and video for all you to enjoy – browse at your leisure over here.

Nintendo World Store - the consoles

Situated in Midtown Manhattan, the Nintendo World Store is a two level Nintendo paradise. There are tons of gaming gear to sample on the ground level. Kids, teenagers, even adults were having a go on the 3DS XL’s. I was too busy taking photos with the life-like Pikachu.

The second level is where it’s at if you are a hardcore Nintendo fan or a video gaming historian (retro gamer). Once you get to the top of the stairs, you are greeted by Nintendo products; clothing, toys, posters, coffee mugs (for kids?) and even musical scores to learn and play the Super Mario Bros tune. On this level you will find what makes any retro gamer go weak at the knees – the history of Nintendo products (in glass cabinets, of course) – from their humble beginnings making Hanafuda cards, to their Game and Watch series, consoles, handhelds and the holy grail, their most famous video game character franchises. Drool worthy indeed.

There were many memories to take away from the Nintendo World Store. For me, the highlight was the Game Boy that survived a bombing in the 1990-1991 Gulf War. The unit still works! I guess that is the perfect way to showcase Nintendo’s quality. If you are a Nintendo fanboy / fangirl or video gaming fan, put the Nintendo World Store (NYC) on your bucket list!

Looks like you had fun, and it’s a proper museum rather than just a marketing ploy.

Got to get myself over there one day!

    Cheers
